Richard Carroll was an English jeweller, best known for taking the lead in organization of first "Jewellery Show" exhibitions in Birmingham. Richard Carroll was born in Birmingham. At the age of 15 he moved to London to study goldsmithing. With his father's money he opened a jewellery shop, which was later named Caiman's Jewellery. To develop his enterprise Carroll travelled a lot. He spent two years in India, visited gold and platinum mines in South America, mostly in Colombia and Peru. Carroll's jewellery was popular at Queen Victoria's Royal Household. Carroll had two sons, who followed in his steps.
